Update to discipline seniority for Home Nations for 2007 on
The Home Nations at The All-British Field Championship.

The rules are as follows:

1. Each Nation shall field a team of one each of the following disciplines (in order of seniority). Compound unlimited (CUL), Compound Limited (Cltd), Recurve (RC), Compound Barebow (CBB), Barebow (BB), Traditional (Trad), Longbow (LB).

2. Each team must have at least one Male or Female.

3. Juniors may be members of the team providing they shoot from the senior peg for their discipline.

4. The names of all team members must be submitted to the tournament organiser by the published closing date and by the recognised Field Liaison Officer for that Nation.

5. If a nation is unable to place a discipline, an archer can be pulled in from a lower listed discipline. E.g. If Wales is unable to find a Cltd they can put in an extra (RC). However, if a Cltd turns up on the day from that Nation there will be a forfeit.

6. If due to illness/bereavement etc (i.e. a serious problem) a named team member cannot shoot, all the recognised Field Liaison Officers for the Nations will meet and come to a mutual agreement.

7. The total of all seven scores count as the system allows 7 styles and a system to cover any absence in a style.
8. Gold medals will be awarded to all members of the winning Nation. Nothing for other placings.

FITA Rule interpetation - line cutters
"The FITA rules regarding 'Line Cutters' are used for Qualifying Rounds in field tournaments only, they do not refer to domestic target rounds".
Judges therefore please continue to judge the value of arrows (line cutters) as before and if necessary please advise archers.
"This interpretation will come into effect from 1st January 2007"
Before 1st April 2006 archers with line cutters were able to call a judge to decide arrow values if fellow archers disputed their call, from that date each target group had to decide amongst themselves, see the FITA rule 9.10.1 under.
Field rounds shot in the UK are not classed as Qualification as they are not followed by Elimination or Head to Head rounds therefore rule 9.10.1 does not apply.

FITA rule book No 4
9.10 QUESTIONS AND DISPUTES
9.10.1 Any athlete on the target will refer any questions about the value of an arrow in the target face, before the arrows are drawn, to:
• during the Qualification rounds to the competitors in the group. The majority opinion of the group will decide on the value – if there is split decision (50/50) the arrow will be given the higher value. That decision of the archers is final.
• during the Elimination and Finals rounds, if the athletes cannot agree on the value of an arrow, a judge will be called to decide on the value of the arrow.

LYME DISEASE?
You and your dog may be at risk from Lyme Disease when you visit the countryside. It is caused by a bacterium carried by ticks. People who walk in the countryside, especially those walking through grass, rough vegetation or wild areas such as heathland, are more at risk.

Lyme Disease is an infection which can affect the skin and occasionally cause serious illness of the nervous system, joints or heart.
It is caused by a spiral-shaped bacterium, transmitted by the bite of an infected tick.
Ticks are tiny spider-like creatures which live in woodland, moorland and grassy areas. Unlike spiders, however, they press themselves close to the skin of the host as they crawl.
The highest risk was thought to be from April to October when the tick was most active and feeding, but research has now shown that, in certain areas, ticks may be active most of the year.

PERSONAL PROTECTION
Wear light-coloured clothing (ticks are easier to see).
Wear long trousers tucked into socks.
Wear long sleeved tops.
Avoid tall grass and shrubby areas.
Keep to centre of tracks.
Inspect for ticks every few hours and, if possible, at the end of your day's outdoor activity, undress and completely check your body for ticks.
Use a tick repellent containing the active ingredient permethrin (Duranon, Permethrin Tick Repellent, Permanone), or N,N-diethyl-meta-tolumide, usually called DEET (Off, Cutters, Muskoi, etc.) Follow label directions. These products repel 82-100% of ticks.
WHAT IF I AM BITTEN?
Remove the tick as soon as possible by grasping it close to the skin with tweezers. Apply gentle pressure, twisting anti-clockwise upwards, repeating if necessary. Part of the tick may remain embedded, but you will have prevented the tick transferring the infection to you. (Save the tick in a sealed container in case you develop symptons later.)

Should I see my Doctor?
The disease may first show itself as an expanding reddish, round rash (erythema migrans) in the area of the bite. This rash starts three to thiry days later. Early symptons may resemble influenza ('flu,) with swollen glands near the site, mild headaches, aching muscles and joints, and tiredness.

If left untreated, the disease may develop over the months and even years, when facial muscle weakness, meningitis-like symptons, and/or arthritus symptoms may occur.

If you have any of these symptoms and you suspect that you may have been bitten by a tick, inform your doctor. Lyme Disease is treatable with antibiotics and the earlier it is diagnosed, the better.
